​Suns Have Their Glory, Stars Have Their Sky (2017)

Suns Have Their Glory, Stars Have Their Sky was commissioned by the Viewmont High School Band Program in Bountiful, Utah, Dan Chaston, Director.  Mr. Chaston has prioritized the commissioning of a new work for band each year at Viewmont, and I was honored to be asked to write a piece for one of his younger bands.  I found the task to be challenging yet fulfilling, and was inspired by one of the lines from the school's alma mater which became the title of the piece.  The piece is intended to be useful for teaching, and enjoyable for young musicians to play.  The frequent changes in orchestration and themes are intended to reflect the various moods/flavors of the sky.
